“Schizophrenia, A Hero’s Journey”

A new art photography exhibit from J. Marie Huston which opens at the California Center for the Digital Arts Gallery

 July 2 from 5pm-9pm.

(310 W. 5th St., Santa Ana)

J. Marie Huston’s Schizophrenia, A Hero’s Journey explores the life of a Schizophrenic man who was diagnosed with this disease at age 13. Yet this is a self-aware, intelligent, and creative person, who faces confusing and conflicting voices from within and social indifference and indignation from without. Huston’s work explores this subject at a deep documentary level in one sense but in another she provides us with an artist’s hand which allows us to access the intuitive, reflective persona of the ‘Hero.’ It is rewarding to see that Huston did not promote a single philosophy or aesthetic about this subject; rather, she allows us as viewers to crystallize our own point of view and to feel the unique voice and perspective of her subject.
