The Photo Palace Bus is a project started by photographer Anton Orlov of California, and is dedicated to the art of analog photography.

Darkroom and presentation area are housed in a 35ft school bus and offer a range of educational and artistic opportunities. The Photo Palace Bus is a traveling darkroom dedicated to traditional photography. Its aim is propagation of knowledge related to historic photographic techniques through cross-country art exhibits, lectures and demonstrations. Currently in the midst of a new funding campaign, the main mission is to:

1) Provide lectures and demonstrations at various events and locations  to keep the public informed about the art of film photography and it’s traditions

2) Offer workshops on gelatin silver printing and alternative photo processes in order to pass on the skill sets that have been refined over the previous generations to new audiences of budding artists
3) Hold impromptu and planned photographic showings to expose more people to real physical prints and to re-spark interest in analog photography
• TPPB will engage in a creation of a cross-continental documentary photo series. This will be a study of human spirit and modern environment.  It will be guided by the artistic visions of such photographers as Irving PennRichard AvedonMary Ellen MarkRobert Frank andDiane Arbus.
This series will incorporate both location street portraits as well those taken in a studio setting. The images will be collected throughout the country with the the goal of covering as diverse slice of the current population as possible.
“I believe that film is not dead – in fact I believe that the onslaught of digital media overload will eventually drive the public to appreciate the art of traditional manual photography for the magical and unique phenomenon it truly is. With time, it is my hope, more people will come to appreciate the amount of labor and thought that goes into each hand-made print.  The Photo Palace Bus aims to make that time come sooner”,
