APPLICATIONS OPEN: REPORTING TRIP TO TEGUCIGALPA AND SAN PEDRO SULA, HONDURAS, MAY/JUNE 2019
 As part of the IWMF’s Latin America reporting initiative, Adelante, twelve journalists will travel to Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula, Honduras from May 28 to June 14, 2019. All reporting fellows will begin their trip in Mexico City, where they will complete a comprehensive security and first aid training from May 28 to June 1, 2019. Fellows will then split into two groups to start the first five days of reporting in Tegucigalpa or San Pedro Sula from June 2-7. On June 8, the two groups of fellows will switch locations for the last five days of reporting that will take place from June 9-14. Fellows will have the opportunity to network with other journalists, report collaboratively with their teammates and peers, and gain access to a variety of sources and sites related to their reporting.

Durante mas de dos décadas, la IWMF ha reconocido los logros extraordinarios alcanzados por mujeres periodistas latinoamericanas que luchan contra todo tipo de dificultades para hacer escuchar sus voces. Durante los próximos cinco años, la iniciativa Adelante fortalecerá el desarrollo profesional, el impacto y la seguridad de 270 periodistas mujeres reportando sobre América Latina.

Adelante ofrecerá a mujeres periodistas internacionales la oportunidad de participar en viajes de investigación; becas anuales para periodistas locales de cada país; y capacitación adicional sobre temas de seguridad personal para mujeres periodistas trabajando en Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, México y la zona de la frontera entre México y Estados Unidos.

A partir de 2016, la IWMF seleccionará a destacadas mujeres periodistas internacionales para participar en viajes periodísticos a Latinoamérica. Los informes que las periodistas elegidas realizarán como resultado de sus investigaciones durante los viajes generarán una importante cobertura en los medios internacionales sobre temas importantes que normalmente no reciben suficiente atención. Estos informes tienen como objetivo de promover nuevas narrativas sobre la región. La IWMF organizará 30 viajes periodísticos durante un período de cinco años. Adelante is the IWMF’s Latin America reporting initiative that seeks to reduce the gender gap in the region by giving women journalists the opportunities and skills to amplify their voices and to advance in their careers. The Initiative builds on the successes of the IWMF’s African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative.

Adelante provides international reporting trips, year-long fellowships for in-country journalists, and expanded security training in Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and the Mexico-United States border. Adelante is made possible by a generous five-year, $5 million grant from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation.Beginning in 2016, the IWMF will run 30 international reporting fellowship trips for  women journalists.
