Photo L.A. 2019 Opening Night – Benefitting Venice Arts January 31-February 3 2019

Now in its 27th edition, Photo L.A. 2019 launches with an Opening Night benefitting Venice Arts, a local organization that ignites, expands, and transforms the lives of Los Angeles’ low-income youth through photography and film education

Ahora, en su 27ª edición, Photo L.A. 2019 se lanza con una Noche de Apertura que beneficia a Venice Arts, una organización local que enciende, expande y transforma las vidas de los jóvenes de bajos ingresos de Los Ángeles a través de la fotografía y la educación cinematográfica.

Photo L.A. 2019 Opening Night will also proudly honor artist Jo Ann Callis for her contributions to the history and aesthetics of the photographic arts. A central figure in the Southern California photography scene since the 1970s, Jo Ann Callis is known for her provocatively staged scenarios with a poetic dimension. In her work, the inner world of the artist finds material expression through creative juxtapositions, bold colors and playful constructions.

Photo L.A. 2019 will be running January 31 – February 3, 2019 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. The airplane hangar’s soaring vaulted ceilings, arched steel trusses, and sweeping 35,000 square foot event space will host a roster of 60–75 local and international galleries and dealers, collectives, leading non-profits, museums, art schools, and book publishers. Highly anticipated programming lectures, panel discussions, special installations, and docent tours will also take place dealing with photography’s current state and importance on art, technology, and culture. An estimated 7,000-10,000 patrons, including curators, collectors, artists, students, and enthusiasts are expected to be in attendance through the weekend.
